Johnny Depp has been one of my favourite actors for a while now; probably before Pirates of the Caribbean, which is when most people first took notice in him, i would imagine. but anyway, in Fear And Loathing he's got no hair, which is a bit odd to begin with, but you get used to it. there was this line at the beginning - 'we can't stop here. this is bat country' which i thought was hilarious, although i'm not sure why particularly. but it's become a reasonably recognisable phrase among the audience; you can buy t-shirts with the phrase on it.
The whole film is basically one massive drug trip, so it's not exactly a 'family sit down' film, but i love it. it kind of reminds me of an older-fashioned, slightly better version of The Hangover but with more drugs and less of a storyline. and the car case with the police and Raoul is awesome. if i had the balls to do that, you know i would just for the hilarity of it. Benicio Del Toro's character; the lawyer, is kind of really annoying, and not even a little bit funny. but that's okay, i think characters like his always seem to get on my nerves a little bit, so it's not terrible acting or anything, he's just not really the kind of character i like. but in general, it's a pretty funny movie, although i'm not sure my parents would enjoy it.
This is definitely one of Johnny Depp's good ones - it's crazy and hilarious and none of it really makes a lot of sense, but that's what i love about it. it's a nice jump from reality, and although i wouldn't want to live my life like they do, it's become a film i look to when i'm tired, and i can't sleep. i can put it on and after a few minutes the soothing drug crazed screams will send me to sleep.
of course, this is all just my opinion.. feel free to disagree...ܤ
